Amber Reflection

A mirror resides
in amber colored enticement,
the reflection of a face
looking in for the courage
to look out but finding
only a view of distortion.

A tear drops
into a glass full of need,
that liquid stone ripples out
to the edge of sanity;
one more for the road
you cannot navigate.

Ice awaits the next pour
until you slur a goodnight,
knowing it has been nothing but bad
and tomorrow you'll ease the pain
of yesterday's search
as once again you look
into that liquid mirror of no return.
