Yesteryear

Mom used to sit on the stoop,
enjoying a cup of coffee with neighbors,
as their day came to a close.

One would bring the cookies, one the gossip
and I'd look out the window at three or four
animated ladies, hair up in pink, plastic rollers
shooting the breeze while fixing the world.

I pass that house, from time to time,
looking at that stoop, once again seeing the printed
aprons that gathered to talk life.
