Undercover of Night

Tonight,  I'll share a smoke
with the man in the moon,
and with a simple smile, I'll toast a glass
knowing you've seen
so many hearts ripped
into fatty bacon strips,
leaving nothing left to pan fry
for the next skirt
that grabs the eye
of scourned fools.

Fear not lover's moon,
no layoff for you,
you'll see another
bright eyed heartbeat
crooning a
singing in the rain,
umbrella dance
and me,
I'll move over,
saving the last beer
for him.

You see, it's just a matter of time
before new love crumbles as stale bread.
