Whatever knee jerk put downs you have for Playgrounds Magazine, the fact remains that the paper published dozens of my poems and other writing for over two decades, with a monthly circulation in the thousands.

It isn't a "knee jerk put down," Donkey.

A local paper is not counted as a poetry publication credit by Poets&Writers -- or any other organization that requires publication credits (like the HWA).

I've also had poetry published in similar local papers and though don't count as poetry publication credits either -- even though they also had similarly large circulations: The Wildwood Sun-by-the-Sea and The Clinton Chronicle (Hell's Kitchen, NYC).

"AYoS" was unable to get listed for several reasons, and unlike "Playgrounds," it actually is a poetry journal.

Writing and publishing are tough businesses to get into. Hanging a "Poet at Work" sign on your shed and writing a column in a local paper are not going to get so much as your pinky toe in the door.
