"Past," George. "Remembrances of things past."

Pretty much all of Will's poems are remembrances of his past. Unfortunately, they aren't very well written, and are even less interesting, and perhaps worst of all, they paint Will as a piece of trash that one has no desire to acquaint oneself with.

I mean taking your wife our once a week for tacos... and only on "Cheapie Night" when the tacos were 5 for a buck?

Yeah... we can all identify... NOT!

Are you pretending to have misspelled it on purpose? If so, please explain the "joke."

Thanks Zod, and I notice Pendragon diddn't get your play on words there.

By the way, Pendragon, any serious reader of Jack Kerouac knew of Marcel Proust from the start.

For example:

"Epiphanies (Proust and Kerouac)":

It isn't a pun, because there's no apparent reason for "passed" to apply to, or comment on, the content of Will's swill.

Misspelling a word for the sake of misspelling it, is not associated with any known form of humor, other than intentionally making the person who wrote it appear to be uneducated.

Unless you're attempting to portray yourself as the illiterate, alcoholic loser we all see you as, there's nothing even remotely humorous in it.

Excellent articles, Zod, I like this J.K. quote:

"Everything from now on belongs to The Duluoz Legend... When I'm done, in about 10, 15 years, it will cover all the years of my life, like Proust, but done on the run, a Running Proust... fit right nice on one goodsized shelf after I'm gone".-Jack Kerouac

I am well aware that "Remembrances of Things Past" was written by Proust, Donkey.

I do not understand how misspelling "Past" as "Passed" is supposed to be funny.

Perhaps you can explain?

It is not a play on words, George. It is a misspelling.

For it to be a play on words, the misspelling would have to change the meaning in a way that directly relates to, or comments on, Will's poem.

Thanks, but no thanks. I outgrew Kerouac's reading level when I was seven.

Really? Let me guess... Will is remembering things past (as in all of his "poems") and Sal and Dean ate tacos in "On the Road."

Discussing literature with you is always so... superficial.

Did you actually read this article, or did you just google "Proust + Kerouac"?

According to the article, "What they both gave us is two truly mind-expanding quest stories that push the limits of our perception of individual human experience: the incessant details in Proust’s writing (one party scene goes on for hundreds of pages), the breathless narration of Kerouac that leaves us dizzy (he wrote the whole thing on a scroll in some cases, fuelled by amphetamine). Despite their awesomeness, these stories have a collective relevance. They seem to ask: What are you looking for? For all the commonality of the quest story, these two writers have the power to make that universal quest seem unique and incomparable."

What is the "quest" in Will's poem? Cheap eats?
