The Untalented Poet
a poem by Bard and NancyGene

With pen in hand, he sits and stares
Upon the blank white screen
And wonders what he'll write today
To make his name all-seen

He thinks of all the bards before
Whose words have stood the test of time
And knows that he too must write
A poem that will chime

But as he writes, his heart sinks low
His words are flat and dull
No rhyme, no rhythm, no flow
Just words that make him scowl

He knows he's not a poet
But he can't help but try
He wants to be remembered
For something more than why

He's just an untalented man
With dreams of being great
But he knows that he'll never be
The poet he read, then ate

So he'll keep on trying
Even though his words are second hand
He'll keep supplying
Bland tales of Shadowland

Couldn't that also be unlamented? I prefer to call his fantasy world Shitslingingville...

It could be but "unlamented" wouldn't match the excellent theme of the poem.. Obviously, he is unlamented, but he knows in his heart, gut and keister that he is untalented. Maybe Bard will join with us in writing an "Unlamented Poet" poem.

He could try for a thousand years and still wouldn't be able to write ANYTHING worth reading, let alone a poem. Fooling himself understates the problem.
