In fact, Pendragon has critiques Stinky George's poem in at least two of the dozen or so threads Stinky George has created for it. I shall repost them immediately below:

I believe we all agree on the meaning of the first two lines. Although it is unclear whether Did is attempting to cure his own insanity, or attempting to hide from the insanity of the world around him.

That's the best interpretation of this line that I've heard so far. I was thinking that he'd gotten his shuttlecock stuck in an oak tree during a game of badminton.

But even the ambulance concept doesn't make any sense in context of the poem: the speaker wasn't taken to "the oaks" by any ambulance. Unless "The Shady Oaks" is the name of a mental institution, but then "the oaks" should be upper case.

At best, the stanza is a collection of disjointed thoughts:

"I'm going to run away from the insanity of the world, by going back to nature. and cure my own insanity in the process."

"I know I'm crazy because an ambulance took my away, ha ha!"

"Some girl I knew might smile at the thought because she was always saying what a crazy fuck I was."

Except that apart from the term "peace makers" reminding you of a song by The Clash (or some such rock group), there is no reason to assume that they have turned into "war officers" (soldiers?).

Did merely says that they "scowl over morning news." If peace makers are upset by the morning news, the conclusion to draw would be that they are upset that the world is either at, or on the brink of, war.

In context with the poem so far, this implies that Did has sought (and found) peace from the world's insanity (war) by shutting himself off from society (becoming a hermit).

If we cut the last two lines of stanza 1, the poem actually makes sense:

Insane Peace

I will lose the insanity
In the oaks
While peace makers scowl
Over morning news.

Who is traveling? Did? The stanza appears to be about the scowling peace makers.

In short, it could be anything ... and, as such, only distracts from the main concept of the poem (Peace through insanity is an insane peace at best).

Obviously ... but *what* emotions? Did specifically labels them as "lust." Lust for what? In context of the poem, one assumes he means a lust for war.

The question is now, whose lust for war: Did's or the world's?

In context of the poem, it *should* relate directly to the first two lines of stanza 3: whoever is brandishing the "swords and shields" has a slow-burning lust for war.

In context of the poem as a whole, the answer would appear to be the world. Peace makers scowl at the morning news, where reports of violence and stockpiling armaments (nuclear proliferation, WMDs) shows that WWIII is inevitable (mankind's lust for war is a slow-burning fuse that will eventually touch off its explosion).

So let's finish the poem off:

Insane Peace

I will lose the insanity
In the oaks
While peace makers scowl
Over morning news.

Might fly by night
Over the bird lands.

Swords and shields.
Volcano lust
Like a slow orgasm.

Granted, it still has some major problems (incomplete sentences, fragmented thoughts), but at least the narrative, stripped of its unintelligible padding, now makes sense. The first stanza remains the strongest, with the latter two fizzling out.

But the biggest problem remains that the title, alone, says as much as the poem (which serves as unnecessary padding to it). In short, Did had a good idea (Peace through insanity is an insane form of peace -- but what other choice do we have?), but was unable to adequately express or elaborate on it..

Nor is it a particularly original idea: "Le Roi de cœur," for example.

CRITIQUE #2:

No, Donkey, Zod's poem is actually very bad.

I've critiqued it in the past, IIRC, and recall discussing (probably with George Dance) how I feel it's just a series of randomly connected thought fragments.

If the poem's meaning is to have no discernible meaning, then the General has succeeded admirably. However, it doesn't take much talent, thought, or time to write unintelligible gibberish in this fragmented manner.

Hell, some of the fragments don't even make any sense.

I have long noticed (via the unmitigated praises you slurped all over the late, unlamented Pickles' gibberish) that you tend to be impressed by things you don't (or in this case, that no one possibly could) understand.

But the fact that you can't understand a poem's meaning, doesn't magically make that poem profound. Gibberish is gibberish, and a laundry list of randomly collected thought fragments is just that.

The end result (the "poem") reminds me of a satirical spoof of a 1960s acid guru pontificating to his stoned-out-of-their-gourds followers -- rambling off nonsense while conning them into believing it profound.

On the positive side, the General's laundry list contains some pretty good imagery. But imagery alone doth not a poem make. If he were able to tie these images together -- to express an intelligible narrative or thought -- he might have something worth reading.

As is, one might just as well read the phone book.
