The Simpsons was a staple of 90s TV, but it's been on the air for so
long, it's become painfully hard to watch modern episodes.
The question is:
Will the Simpsons ever reclaim its former greatness that so horribly
abandoned us in the 2000s?
Or will our favorite yellow family be doomed to permanent mediocrity?
Let's debate.
..

I don't think there is any debate about this. Unless the original
writers and showrunners return, AND they are able to tap into the
spirit of the times, 30 years after the fact, The Simpsons will remain
as it is now. The show was showing signs of decline by Season 7, and
by Season 9 or 10, it was clear that its period of greatness had
finished.

No. I think Futurama took the role of the 2000's making a double satire
on the futurist art/movies from the 50's and the 'current' society. Nerds/geeks won.

It hasn't been great for decades. Like many US shows, it has been
dragged on well past its use-by-date. It also hasn't been helped by
having the old episodes on near-constant looping re-runs (same with
Friends).

Was Friends ever good though? It's one of the least funny shows I've
ever seen.
