Life is interesting!

New DLL XPS 13 with Windows 11 Home.

New PC set up doesn't allow you to use a local account at set up time.
I dredged an old Microsoft Account out of the ether (just an email address
that I didn't realise already had an account registered to it).

Anyway, during the set up it asks for your name and phone number and stuff.

I must have done something (or crap happened) because when I reset the
password and logged in with the Microsoft Account it seemed to have picked
up another name, which I think was an example name used during the set up
process.

All very weird.

Anyway when logged in I tried to amend the account details.

The account now shows my name within the Control Panel, but when I reboot
and log in it still has this other name, and I don't seem to be able to
get rid of it.

I have set up a local account which I will use for the moment, but I am
struggling getting my head around having a Microsoft Account which is tied
to my email address (one of them) which now has a name completely
different from the local account name associated with this Microsoft
Account.

I am wary of logging into a Microsoft Account from another PC in case it
tried to then use it instead of my local account.

I hate Windows 11 already!

Gah.

It does, if you kick it in the right place!

Thanks.

Read a few of those and with a pre-installed Dell copy the easiest way
seemed to be to start out with a Microsoft account then create a local
account.

However my immediate problem is how to change the name on my Microsoft
Account.

I've followed what seemed to be the way using the Microsoft tools but I
can see my details in User Accounts on the PCC, but these details are not
offered at the login screen.

Cheers

Can you do more if you sign on to your MSFT account in a browser?

W11 takes me to a browser when I try and change things.
I am very reluctant to do that from any other system as once Windows has a
Microsoft Account active it seems to go full bore to convert everything to
use that.

I may be wrong, but I am very wary.

Cheers
