Sir Andrew Davis, CBE, the conductor, who has died in Chicago, aged 80, held the unusual honour of being concurrently chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and musical director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera during the last decade or so of the 20th century...his third wife was the American soprano Gianni Rolandi, who died three years ago.

Davis was conductor laureate of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
