Gutsick Gibbon explains the criticisms against Lee Berger and the
Rising Star project:

<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7gdU7QM8Mc>

Short version: Lee Berger is tripping over the conflicting
requirements between the traditional peer-review model and the
open-access model he and John Hawks champion.

The video identifies the paywalled article which criticizes Lee
Berger.

From the very beginning, Lee Berger was told that he was going
to be stopped and prevented from ever digging again. The local
authorities were furious, said that his finds were adding racist
fuel to the racist fires. This was a POWERFUL incentive to avoid
a lot of scrutiny and "Announce" the most outlandish conclusions.

If the people who pretended to be oh so "Science" based, so
objective weren't fakers, they would have long, Long, LONG
since noticed the problems. Like how the conclusions remained
the same no matter how much the underlying facts changed.

It was "Homo" Naledi from the beginning, when they were saying
it was 2+ million years old. Now it's significantly younger than
erectus or Heidelberg man, even overlaps the oldest dates for
Neanderthals & Denisovans!

But the conclusions remain the same... "Homo" Naledi.

How old is Sediba?

Based on Sediba, if those dates haven't changed too much, Naledi
is pretty convincing proof of a remarkably resilient form. Is it
different? Of course. But they're placed about 1.6 million years
apart? Look at the change to Homo in HALF that time! So Naledi
looks like Sediba only younger... Sediba if Sediba was a lot more
stable, morphologically, than is Homo. And that makes perfect
sense.

Evolution is different from the Intelligent Design Out of Africa
purists believe in. Sediba and Naledi are found very close by. Homo,
on the other hand, at the point of Sediba, was everywhere from
Africa to AT LEAST China, and probably well beyond.

Different locations, environments. Far greater range of evolutionary
pressures...

So we would expect Sediba to be vastly more stable...
Australopithecus.. at least some species/sub species.
