So the claim is that they can do facial reconstruction
from DNA. Which, if true, might offer some rather
interesting glimpses into paleo anthropology.

One issue I raised elsewhere: Human faces (skulls?)
have supposedly been shaped as much or more so
by lifestyle than genetics. The foods we eat, for
example, and our eating utensils! So, what and how
we eat...

Sort of like how lifestyle can shape a skeleton, or
exactly how that happens...

But there's also ramifications here.

See, there's blood that supposedly belonged to the
prophet Muhammad. Of course humans lack
nucleated red blood cells but, if it's really his blood
then it came into contact with him. There could be
"Contact" DNA, not to be redundant, as well as skin
cells and the like...

If there's anything to it, it should work on any
historical figure. There are researchers who claim
to have retrieved DNA from the cremated remains
of the sacrificed children of Carthaginians! If the
implications are clear: There are some claims that
partial remains of Buddha have been preserved &
recovered!

I know, I know; we're snowballing here. Or are we?

We if take all the claims made and put them
together, there is hope of both retrieving the DNA
and reconstructing the faces of a great many
ancient people... including at least one Apostle of
Christ!

The way I figure it: Going by the bones, we have
to be at least as accurate in our reconstructions
as they were with dinosaurs for the first 100 years.

Which isn't all that incredibly accurate, btw.

It's "Ballpark" accurate.

It's "Within the vicinity" accurate.

"Close," no doubt.

But if there's anything to this DNA facial
reconstruction, and we can deal with the impact
of lifestyle on our appearance, we might yet
know what Naledi looked like.. erectus...

No. That's the point. We don't know.

Look, for example, at the many different
reconstructions of the famous King Tut. They're
all at least a little bit different, the "Gaps"
between them giving way to chasms at the
extremes. BUT THEY'RE ALL BASED ON HIS
REAL SKULL!

So going by the bones isn't that accurate. You've
simply been trained to believe that it is. And
here's a new development that may undo that
training!
