I heard some months ago that aioe server had a HW failure and so
for some time it would not work.
Someone knows if there was an official statement by his operator
or administrator that explained what happened and if it would be
back one day or it would stop forever the service?

This is more interesting. In his website Paolo Amoroso never cite
aioe.
Why? Maybe because he works for the italian governement?
Maybe he is ashamed to have to deal with aioe?

Simply because they are 2 different Paolo. It is a classic case of
homocody, which is very common in Italy. One is an astronomer from Milan
(and he is the one who writes on the comp.* group), the other who
managed the AIOE server is a criminal lawyer from Rome, also in Italy.

From my quick research there are approximately 18 Paolo Amoroso in Italy.

Sincerely

It is a real pity that a lawyer who for years rendered such a
valuable service did not find the time to write two lines and
officially explain what had happened and what the future of the
service would be.
He remember to me the sad case of Roger Sondermann, or the sad
case of Truecrypt.
