hosting copies of the filth, which is not the case if a Web shite with
KP is accessible through that ISP. (Unless the ISP runs a caching

I don't know what the scientific studies say on whether accessing KP can
"radicalize" someone into perpetrating meatspace abuse, or the opposite
(safe outlet), or has near to no effect. If it doesn't "radicalize", or
not very much, criminalizing it may actually have perverse consequences
that make kids less safe: one, by driving it underground and up to black
market prices, which then subsidize its production, and two, by
encouraging the destruction of evidence, since merely possessing the
evidence is itself a crime.

On the other hand, perhaps it's best to just rid the entire internet of
such filth ... too bad that doesn't seem to be possible, in practice.

I think it would probably help, and make people much safer, if people
were capable of being rational when making policy on issues like this.
Clearly, as a species we have much maturing yet to do.

I will note the irony that the most vocal crusaders of "for the
children!" causes are the same conservatives whose policies give
abusive, perverted fucktards like the Duggars license to operate,

you're claiming Usenet has common carrier status like the post office. i
can drop a pound of cocaine off at the post office and though it is
illegal the post office isn't liable for delivering it at its
destination due to common carrier laws. if eight balls of cocaine were
distributed from that pound of cocaine within the postal system, then
absolutely they would be liable.

now you should be able to figure out what's going on with common carrier

I was able to replicate these errors. The signup is a snap. But then
authentication repeatedly fails. It is impossible to post to any of the
rocksolid servers provided on the nodes page.

I got the same errors that others are getting for 480 Authentication.

Authentication fails in every case at all the server addresses listed
on the site.

No, but it does mean they must be responsive to takedown requests for
stuff that's actually physically on their servers, unlike stuff that's
merely reachable through their pipes. Apparently BuffNET was not.

I highly doubt that. There are FAR easier ways to get passwords than
standing up a news server, much less network of systems.

No, that's not how Usenet works. No News administrator was expected to
supervise what a user of foreign News site posted for content. They were
expected to deal with abuse of Usenet and the idiocy of their own users,
but not the content posted by people who were not their users.

That's different than having created newsgroups literally named to make
specific illegal content on topic. You seem think they should have been
expected to supevise any potentially illegal content posted to any
newsgroup, whether on or off topic. No one has that kind of staff time
to commit to Usenet and no one wanted all of Usenet moderated.
