Since it's based on Debian I assume it should work on most of what Debian works on. Debian makes it pretty easy to not use non-free stuff, as mentioned above. Just remove non-free from your sources file.

https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html Supposedly like Debian, but without the unfree stuff and the firmware blobs. Sounds good to me, just wonder if it will work on your average hardware ?

There is DistroTube and Luke Smith to learn Linux from and they really helped me on my way to Arch Linux EF - Linux Made Simple has great tutorials to follow too I think you should check those out
